A 19-year old woman is gang raped. Her government then sentences her to 200 lashes. Where? Saudi Arabia.
Any culture that allows/promotes such things has serious issues that should be addressed.

Some say Fred Thompson is lazy. I echo Josh in saying that that may not be a bad thing.
In a society that is hyperactive to a fault, maybe a change of pace in the presidency wouldn't be such a bad thing.
Say goodbye to Mike Huckabee! He's off my list of candidates under consideration.
Turns out he's not actually that much of a conservative... Need proof? Look at his "Fair Tax." It's ridiculous. Under his plan, we'd get rid of the federal income tax and replace it with a federal sales tax. But. In order to make it "fair" and to add progressivity back into the tax, he'd offer "prebates" to lower-income families. In non-Orwellian language, these prebates simply are checks written by the federal government. If I have to explain why this is a bad idea to anyone, then you're hopeless. ... So that basically leaves John McCain, Fred Thompson, and Rudy Giuliani on my short list.
...but I'm not sure he's so cool that he is worthy of being stocked. Even more odd, the stalker is a priest. It's a strange world in which we live.
Apparently Jack Bauer isn't as strong as the Writers Guild of America: '24' has been postponed. Now their dumb little strike has pissed me off (I actually don't know if it's dumb or not).

Is there any reason to be surprised?
While the Democratically-controlled Congress has achieved modest gains on ethics and earmarks, their failures are piling up. First is the news that the House is bringing back the 4-day work week. So it took them exactly one year to bring something back that they criticized from the GOP-led Congress. Second is the war in Iraq. From a Democrat's perspective, the Democrats have done nothing to get the U.S. out of Iraq. From a Republican perspective, they just tried and failed to encroach on the Commander-in-Chief's prerogatives regarding war. Third is their taxing and spending. It's nice to be reminded so clearly who the tax-and-spend party is: minimum wage hikes, massive tax increases, massive spending increases, irrational expansion of the SCHIP, and so forth. The door for real fiscal conservative Republicans has been opened. Will any stand up, or is the GOP also lost?
I pose this question to so-called fundamentalists in America and abroad (though I don't like the term fundamentalist):
What's more dangerous: homosexuality or the individual and societal repression of homosexuality? The answer to me is obviously the latter. Mark Foley? Larry Craig? The Catholic Church scandal? Now we have a scandal in the United Arab Emirates where two Emirati men are accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year old boy. But there aren't any gays in Iran or the Arab states, remember? |
